God is your Dad

  • Rev. Theophilus Ofori
Date preached September 28, 2024

In this sermon, Rev Theophilus shed more light in the Fatherhood of God and how we are His sons in Christ Jesus;

1. God’s Eternal Purpose in Christ (Ephesians 1:3-9)

Ephesians 1:3-9 reveals that before the foundation of the world, God had a purpose—to create a family in Christ. This was not an afterthought but a predetermined plan rooted in His love.
• Verse 3: God has blessed us with all spiritual blessings in Christ. This means that our identity and inheritance are secured in Him, not by works but by divine purpose.
• Verse 4: God chose us before the foundation of the world. This choice was not based on human merit but on divine love, ensuring that we would be holy and blameless before Him.
• Verse 5: We were predestined for adoption as sons. This highlights God’s fatherhood and our sonship, revealing that we are not merely creatures but His family.
• Verse 6-7: In Christ, we have redemption through His blood, meaning that our inclusion in God’s family is sealed by His sacrifice.
• Verse 8-9: This plan of grace was a mystery, now revealed, showing God’s wisdom and purpose in making us His own.

2. The Man in Christ as God’s Family

Since eternity, God desired not just to create beings but to have sons—family members who would share in His divine nature (2 Peter 1:4). This means that:
• Our sonship is not an accident but a divine ordination (Romans 8:29-30).
• The new creation in Christ is not merely saved but born into God’s family (John 1:12-13).
• The term in Christ signifies a new identity, a divine genealogy. We are not outsiders but part of God’s household (Ephesians 2:19).

3. The Implications of Being in God’s Family
• Sonship means inheritance: Romans 8:17 says that if we are children, then we are heirs of God and joint-heirs with Christ. Everything Christ has, we have.
• Sonship means divine intimacy: Galatians 4:6 tells us that because we are sons, God has sent the Spirit of His Son into our hearts, crying, “Abba, Father.” This means we have unrestricted access to Him.
• Sonship means eternal security: John 10:28-29 assures that no one can pluck us out of the Father’s hand because we belong to Him forever.
• Sonship means authority: Just as Jesus walked in dominion as the Son of God, we, as God’s children, are empowered to live victoriously in Christ.

4. The Ultimate Goal—The Fullness of God’s Family in Christ

God’s plan will culminate in a great family gathering in eternity, where every member in Christ will be glorified (Revelation 21:3-7). The adoption is not just a present reality but a future fulfillment when we will fully manifest as sons of God in glorified bodies (Romans 8:19-23).

Conclusion

God’s eternal intention was always to have a family in Christ. The man in Christ is not a mere believer but a son, adopted into God’s divine household. This means we are loved, chosen, secure, and destined for glory. We are not orphans; we are God’s own—His eternal family.

This message brings confidence, joy, and purpose to every believer, knowing that our identity in Christ is the fulfillment of God’s divine dream.
